Abstract

The modern Bozburun Peninsula, which was acknowledged as the Carian Chersonesos during the Classical period, fell into the influential sphere of Rhodes beginning with the early Hellenistic period and that the deme type settlements, the so-called villages/equivalents in the Peninsula, were politically subjected to the three main poleis of the Island, however specifically for the interests based on the economy model. Apart from the discussions about the relational status of the demes with these poleis, a problem of priority yet unsolved pertains to some of those whose locations have not been determined thoroughly. In this paper, the deme of Hygassos, whose territorium is deemed to have corresponded to the boundaries of Selimiye Village, is questioned. It is, at the same time, conceived that the deme center could have been situated at Asarcık Tepe lying in the vicinity of Kızılköy- a quarter of Selimiye while the relationship of a number of sites (comparatively distant to the core) with Selimiye known as ancient Losta is interrogated.
